Day One
We begin the holiday with the opportunity to visit Dumfries, a town laced with atmospheric lanes and quarters where they are proud to celebrate their most famous son - the Scottish poet Robert Burns. Then it is back on the road as we head to the New Lanark Mill Hotel.
Day Two
The elegant city of Edinburgh is a wonderful place to visit. If you are feeling particularly energetic, take a walk up to Arthur’s Seat for glorious panoramic views across the city. Edinburgh Castle has a fascinating history as both a Royal Palace and a military stronghold. The Royal Mile is a splendid thoroughfare through the city with an array of shops and tearooms and there are also plenty of museums to pique your interest in everything from ghost hunts, to whiskey.
Day Three
Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site that is New Lanark. It is a small 18th century village set in a sublime Scottish landscape, where the philanthropist Robert Owen moulded a model industrial community. Travel back in time on the Annie McLeod Experience dark ride, check out the historic classroom, village houses and working textile machinery to experience village life.
Day Four
Glasgow is a city that proudly celebrates Art and Design from Charles Rennie MacIntosh to the 21st century street art murals that adorn the city walls. Visit the Kelvingrove Museum and Gallery to see some of Scotland’s finest art treasures or, check out the Botanic Gardens for an escape to nature within the hustle and bustle of the city. Glasgow is also fantastic for shopping or find a local café for some traditional Scottish treats.
Day Five
It’s time to head for home with the sound of bagpipes filling your hearts. We take the chance to visit Carlisle, this proud bastion of the North that has seen many cross-border skirmishes through the years. It is uniquely located at the gateway of two nations and its streets are full of character just waiting for you to discover.
